522的由來

1993年12月29日，聯合國第二次大會為紀念1992年《生物多樣性公約》的制定與正式生效，並讓世人對於生物多樣性議題的認識與關注，原先訂定每年的12月29日為國際生物多樣性日。但《生物多樣性公約》原先於1992年5月22日的奈洛比會議上通過與制定，且由於12月29日正逢許多國家的耶誕與新年假期，難以安排生物多樣性日相關活動；因此，為了更普及的推動生物多樣性，在2000年12月聯合國大會上，決定2001年起將5月22日訂定為國際生物多樣性日，沿用至今。
